How much are fish and chips at Stingray Matt's?

A piece of battered hoki is $5.50 and a scoop of chips is $4.50, so one fish and chips costs $10. Fresh snapper is $8.50 a piece battered or grilled ($9.50 crumbed), which makes snapper and chips $13. Family pack 1 (a scoop of chips, two hoki, two potato cakes and two sausages) is $24.50. Prices are from the shop's online ordering page, read 4 November 2026.

Is the fish fresh?

The menu says so fish by fish. Snapper, gurnard and tarakihi are listed as fresh; hoki is listed as frozen at sea. The fresh fish sells out: on 4 November gurnard and tarakihi were marked sold out online and snapper was available, so check the online menu if you want a particular fish.

Can you order Stingray Matt's online?

Yes. The "See the menu" button above opens the shop's online ordering page, which shows what's sold out and lets you order ahead for pick-up from 1/7 Wood Street. You can also ring 09 431 4279.

Does Stingray Matt's do gluten-free fish?

It grills fish as well as battering and crumbing it, and the grilled hoki, snapper, gurnard and tarakihi are marked gluten free on the menu. Fryers in a fish and chip shop are often shared with battered food, so ask when you order if you're coeliac.

What else is on the menu?

Burgers from $5.90 (a hamburger) to $18 (honey mustard chicken, bacon and cheese), fish burgers with hoki ($11.50) or snapper ($14.50), toasted wraps $11 to $17, toasted sandwiches, hot dogs, spring rolls, wonton soup, milkshakes ($6.50) and deep-fried desserts such as a battered Magnum ($14).
