Mangawhai's weekly market is the Mangawhai Tavern Market, every Saturday morning from 8.30am to 1pm in the grounds of the Tavern at 2 Moir Street in the village. It's free to walk in, dogs on leads are welcome, and it has produce, food, crafts and live music in the garden bar.
When is the Mangawhai market on?
- Every Saturday, 8.30am to 1pm.
- Where: The Mangawhai Tavern, 2 Moir Street, Mangawhai Village.
- Cost: free entry.
- Dogs: welcome on a lead.
- Listed dates currently run through to 9 January 2027.
What's at the Tavern Market?
Local produce, food stalls, crafts and live music in the garden bar. It's a proper Saturday-morning village market rather than a big festival market: go for coffee, fruit and veg, something for lunch and a wander. The stallholders change week to week and through the seasons, which is half the point. The Mangawhai Tavern itself is open afterwards if you want to stay for lunch.
Is there a market at Wood Street?
We haven't found a regular market at the Wood Street shops in the Heads that we can confirm from an organiser's own page. If you run one, tell us and we'll add it with your dates. Wood Street itself is still worth a Saturday wander for its cafés and shops.
What other markets are near Mangawhai?
- Waipu Street Market: the big one, on the Saturday or Sunday of long weekends, 9am to 1pm, with well over 100 stalls and food trucks along Waipu's main street and Caledonian Park. A short drive north.
- Waipu Boutique Sunday Market: a smaller market in the Coronation Hall, 9am to 1pm on a Sunday. Its schedule is loosely published, so check before going.
- Matakana's farmers' market on Saturday mornings, to the south — easy to pair with a beach on the way home. It's on our day trips page.
Market-adjacent: fairs and one-offs
Mangawhai also has seasonal one-off days that work like markets: the Labour Weekend Book Fair at the Mangawhai Museum, and the Mangawhai Lions Food & Wine Festival at the Domain. Every dated one is on the events calendar, and our summer guide runs month by month to February.
Tips for market morning
- Get there early in summer; parking around Moir Street fills fast.
- Bring cash as well as a card. Some small stalls prefer it.
- Bring a bag for produce.
- Make a morning of it: the Mangawhai Artists Gallery on Moir Street opens from 9am on Saturdays.
